Fort Eustis School Liaison
|
The School Liaison Officer works in conjunction with the Child and Youth Services Division and the local school community to address educational issues involving military children. Through partnering with the local and military community, the School Liaison Officer uses a variety of resources to provide assistance with issues concerning student transition.
Education is a primary quality of life concern for military families and transitioning from school to school is always challenging. The Moving Checklist found at the Parent Resource Web Page will help parents and children prepare for their upcoming move.

Registering for school must be done as soon as possible upon arriving in the area. The link below will have information concerning Newport News Public Schools Registration requirements. Registration must be completed at the attending school; however, children with special needs must be registered at the district office (please make sure to bring the child's IEP from the previous school). The TDAP immunization is now required for all students entering the 6th grade. Also, all children entering any Virginia elementary school for the first time are required to have a school physical just prior to enrollment; therefore, to ensure prompt enrollment upon arrival to the Fort Eustis area, arrange for your child's physical before leaving your current installation. The physical form and other registration requirements can be obtained by going to the following link: http://sbo.nn.k12.va.us/resources/registration.shtml
Registration requirements for other school districts may differ, so please check with the school if living outside of the Newport News Public Schools District (links to other districts will be found at) http://www.militaryk12link.com.
Virginia Code and regulations for homeschooling can be found at the following link:

Notify the school's office as soon as you have received an estimated departure date. Visit school prior to departure to officially withdraw. (Must be a Parent/Legal Guardian--no stepparents) Receive copy of withdrawal documents and/or records to include an IEP if student is receiving special education services (available after completion of withdrawal process). To receive a copy of the school records in addition to withdrawal form requires 48-hour notice.
The School Liaison Officer acts as a communication link between the Installation and the surrounding school districts. For more information contact your School Liaison Officer.
