Hours of operation are tailored to meet the needs of the military family. Parents are given the opportunity to 'choose' their child's caregiver through referral and interview. Whenever possible, space and ratio permitting, siblings can be cared for together in the same home. Some FCC subsidy assistance is available for families that qualify.
As an alternative to center and large group care, the "Child and Youth Services" division offers an option to parents who prefer a small nurturing environment for their children. Family Child Care (FCC) offers small multi-age group care in a home environment. FCC professionals provide a variety of home care options for children ages four weeks to 12 years old.
FCC providers and their families' background are checked through state and federal agencies to assure parents that they are getting safe care. Prior to certification, these FCC professionals receive 40 hours of training, have had a required health assessment, and an interview both in the home and FCC office. Specialists in fire, safety and health inspect the homes prior to certification and annually thereafter. On-going training, support, monitoring and unannounced inspections are provided and all regulatory requirements are strictly enforced. Providers are independent contractors, hence, they develop their own programs and activities based on developmentally appropriate practices. Training and educational opportunities can lead to a Child Development Associate (CDA) or National Association For Family Child Care (NAFCC) Accreditation for FCC professionals.
